Crafted from aerospace composites, the Carbon Man is a robust, lightweight shell with intelligently designed intervention locations that allow students to cost-effectively train critical TCCC and PFC skills over and over again.
Each intervention site accurately replicates anatomy and relevant wound patterns. It can be rapidly reset for students during lab work and ultimately replaced in the future if needed.

Then, we fine-tuned every detail before switching on the 5-axis CNC machine.

What makes Carbon Man different form traditional trauma mannequins?
The Carbon Man is a departure from the traditional thinking of trauma mannequins.
So many mannequins attempt to be classroom skills trainers and full-service simulation mannequins during field training exercises. The multi-purpose objective often means they don’t service either scenario well enough to meet our standards.
When using traditional TCCC Mannequins, classroom practicals tend to be slower to reset and more expensive to run. Therefore, based on our research, instructors limit students’ repetitions due to available time and total cost per head.
Compare this with Battlefield Partners devices like the “Desktop CRIC Trainer,” where the device allows for a 3 to 4-second reset, and students run multiple simulations quickly at a low total cost per head—proven by the thousands of classroom reps that students have run on the Desktop CRIC.
With that in mind, we went back to the drawing board and set ourselves the following task:
_Design a comprehensive skills trainer for the classroom.
_Ensure maximum repetitions for students – Build muscle memory based on good practice.
_Ensure low cost of consumables – Stretch our customers already constrained budgets without impacting their training standards and quality.
_Provide longevity (FYI, we have a design imperative of 10 years in service) – Make a modular solution that can be easily repaired and updated over the years to come.
